Skiing Experience
I was born and raised in the Colorado mountains and started skiing as soon as I could walk. My family is full of professionals in all aspects of the ski industry. I've made the Japanese mountains my home and I would love to share them with you.
Teaching / Guiding Experience
12 years of teaching and guiding experience, all in northern Nagano, Japan. Before transitioning to working full time in the recreation industry, I was public school teacher, so I try to incorporate effective teaching and motivation methods in my ski lessons.
Other Info
I have lived in the mountains of Japan full time for 12 years. I enjoy the mountains all year round so I am very familiar with the terrain. I am also fluent and literate in Japanese. I also own and operate vacation rentals and inns in Togari Onsen so I can assist with accommodation needs. I also have a travel agent license so I can assist with planning your trip.

Sam was the perfect guide for me .we had a relaxing yet successful day on the mountain.He improved my skiing and I had lots of fun exploring a nea ski field .

My 3 sons and I had an excellent lesson with Sam. He was able to clearly explain what we needed to do to improve our skiing and demonstrated each step to us slowly. His teaching style was excellent for children and adults and he was very calm and patient. The lesson was worth every cent and even my young children commented on how much they had improved by the end of the lesson. It was only the second day of lessons/skiing for my children and by the end of the day they were very confident on green runs and keen to try the red runs on day three - which they managed with success. Thank you Sam!

Yes. Sam adjusted to the variable ski levels and aspirations of 3 intermediates in a patient, encouraging, fun, sociable way. He certainly knows these mountains and Japan and was willing to share a great deal of information about the culture here. We had a brilliant day with beautiful weather and covered a lot of ground much to our delight. Loved his teaching style and we each made a lot of progress that day.
